Your Statement

“We offer a 5% courtesy for all treatment that is paid in full by cash, check, or credit card before or at the time of service. This offer is valid for patients who do not have coverage through a contracted dental benefit plan with this practice.”

From this statement patients understand that if they have dental benefits through a plan and the dentist is not a preferred provider (did not contract with the plan) they can get 5% courtesy for paying with cash or credit card. Is this true? All the information we received so far from all the dental management firms contravene to this statement. They say that only noninsured patients can receive the courtesy. They also say that if we decide to discount our service to the patient we should discount also the insurance payment with the same percent. It never made sense to me since we did not enter in a contractual agreement with those plans. Second, is it sound to give same courtesy to patients who pay by credit card since we have to pay the merchant fee, sometimes 3-4% of the fee?
